Coach Enrique Muniz

Enrique Muniz is the owner and founder of Southside BJJ, established in 2016. Originally from Mexico City, Enrique has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1996 and holds the rank of second-degree black belt under Adrian Ricci. Though no longer an active competitor, he has competed nationally and internationally and takes pride in staying in shape and training hard alongside the next generation of athletes.

Southside BJJ reflects his vision: a high-level training environment with a strong sense of community. Under his leadership, the academy has earned multiple team championships and become known for its welcoming, inclusive culture. Enrique is especially proud of the gym’s strong women’s program and the diversity of its students.

He teaches fundamental, effective jiu-jitsu that applies to both competition and self-defense, with a focus on skill development and long-term growth. His coaching style is practical, detail-oriented, and built to help students develop a deep, adaptable game. As a coach, Enrique is hands-on—present at every event, whether local or out of state, and deeply invested in each student’s journey both on and off the mats.
